The Revenue has changed the way that P45 information should be entered. Use these simple steps when an employee starts with your company:
- Enter only the standard rate cut off and the tax credits from the P45.
- The employee should be put onto a week1/month1 status.
- The previous gross pay and tax paid should not be entered until you receive the new standard rate cut off and tax credits from the Revenue via ROS or a Manual Tax Certificate.

Quickpay Validate Payroll Data
As part of Quickpay v7.1 Sage have included an additional new tool to help validate your payroll.
This tool can be used at any stage of the payroll process in order to check the payroll data. Sage would recommend you run this feature regularly in order to identify any discrepancies that may have occurred within the company data.
To access this new tool click on ‘Reports’ from your toolbar and select Validate Payroll Data. You can then print the Data Validation Report and address any issues.
Useful Tips
Quickpay – Unable to adjust Employee Details
Problem: You would like to edit the payroll details for an employee, but the details are grayed out and you cannot modify them.
Solution: This is most likely due to the fact that a timesheet has already been saved for this employee. To find if there is a timesheet saved, open Employee Details 1 tab and check if there is a warning advising that a timesheet has already been saved for this employee. The Employee details cannot be changed once a timesheet is saved.
If the changes you are attempting to make relate to a timesheet that has already been saved you may need to re-process that period by using the Period Archive feature (see below). If not, simply make the changes once you’ve set the next period.
Micropay Professional – Period Archiving
Period Archiving is a fantastic tool available within Micropay Professional and Quickpay with Feature Pack 1. The Period Archive option automatically saves previous periods which allows easy access to print reports from those periods and to revert to an archive to continue processing from the archived period.
To ensure Period Archiving is activated on your company data:
- Log into the Administration section of the Micropay Professional. The administration section can be accessed by using the normal login screen and entering the Administrator user name and password, with no company ID or company password.
- Select Miscellaneous – Period Archive – Settings. Ensure that the archive box is ticked, this will archive the company payroll data.
- If you have purchased the Feature Pack 1 for QuickPay, Period Archiving will automatically be activated on your company data.
Micropay Professional -To access reports from previous periods without making any changes to the data:
- Period Archiving select Miscellaneous – Period Archiving.
- Select the Period you want to Revert to
- Select the revert button
Micropay Professional -To return to a previous period and continue to process again from that period:
- Log into the Administration section of the Micropay Professional. Accessed by using the normal login screen and entering the Administrator user name and password, with no company ID or company password.
- Select Miscellaneous – Period Archive – Revert Company to – Select a company and the period to revert to and click on revert.
QuickPay – To return to a previous period and continue to process again from that period:
- From the toolbar select Period Archives and Goto Period Archives
- Select the period you want to archive to and click on Go to Archive
Sage Payroll Policy on Dot Matrix Narrow Carriage Printers
The use of narrow carriage Dot Matrix printers is not supported with Sage Micropay Professional or Quickpay. Some payroll reports are very wide and require the capacity of wide-carriage printers. Narrow-carriage Dot Matrix printers at times have difficulty printing reports in a Windows environment due to font, driver and speed limitations.
Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows ME
As part of their Lifecycle Policy, Microsoft announced that they were ending extended Support for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows ME. As part of this they retired public and technical support, including security updates, by 11th July 2006. Microsoft are strongly advising customers to upgrade to Windows 2000 or Windows XP, as these are the operating systems that will continue to be supported going forward.
