Security

Security requirements for using Sage Pay
You will need a 128-bit SSL certificate to secure your payment pages. These can be obtained from a number of sources including VeriSign and Thawte.

You will also need to be able to make HTTPS POSTs from scripts on your server (using something like OpenSSL on Linux platforms, or the WinHTTP object in Win32). If you

are hosting with a third party company we recommend you talk to them about these requirements before committing to Sage Pay with Direct integration.

If you cannot install a certificate for your payment pages, we would recommend you consider Server integration with inFrame instead.
If you cannot perform HTTPS POSTs from your scripts, we would recommend Sage Pay Go with Form integration.

PCI DSS compliance: Because you are collecting, storing and transferring card data, you will need to comply with strict guidelines. Your bank will ask you to undergo

an audit to ensure that data is kept secure at all times. This can be extremely costly, so if you do not wish to undergo such an audit, then outsourcing your payments by

using our Server integration option and inFrame, could be a sensible alternative.

Using Sage Pay at JustRewards.ie

JustRewards.ie is a subsidiary of ABC School Supply Centre based in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. Established in 2007, the company is now one of the leading suppliers of a wide array of motivational rewards for use in the classroom and at home. JustRewards.ie is using Sage Pay to accept online payments. Sage Pay is designed to help businesses such as JustRewards.ie to set up a secure online store quickly and to reduce the risk of fraud across all of their online transactions.

“We had a 45% order abandonment rate”, explains Brian Higgins, Managing Director, ABC School Supply Centre. “The main problem we had was customers using PayPal believed they could only use PayPal and without a PayPal account, they therefore couldn’t place orders”. Sage Pay Ireland worked with JustRewards.ie to integrate the solution into the website. Sage Pay can process all major cards including laser.

“Using Sage Pay means we are already receiving double the amount of orders as customers find it easy to pay and can now use their laser cards,” continues Brian. “We can view and manage all transactions through Mysagepay and the commission charges are less than other payment providers”. Sage Pay is secure and compliant. The process to get up and running is simple and straight-forward, Sage Pay advisors are on hand to help every step of the way and are available 24/7.

“Customers find it easy to pay and we find it easy to track and monitor”, adds Brian. “We have just begun an expansion programme and we are about to enter the UK and other European markets. With Sage Pay, we will be able to process the large majority of potential customers’ cards regardless of their country of origin”. With Sage Pay, users can add as many currencies to their account as they need to, free of charge. The reliable infrastructure ensures maximum uptime and resilience.

“Sage Pay is the perfect solution for us”, concludes Brian. “It’s simple and secure and allows us to focus on what we do best”.

Case study 2

Spirit Radio uses Sage Pay to process all of the station’s donations.

Spirit Radio is a ‘not for profit’ organisation with charitable status which began broadcasting on air in January 2011 in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford.  The station employs 22 people country wide and represents the diverse Christian Community in Ireland. Spirit Radio works alongside Churches and Christian organisations to bring Good News to individuals, neighbourhoods and communities across the Nation.  Spirit Radio is using Sage Pay to process donations to the station.

“We had made plans for an On Air pledge drive and as this was our first fundraiser of this type, we were very late in realising that being able to take credit card donations would be critically important to our fundraising capacity”, explains Rob Clarke, Chief Executive, Spirit Radio.  “The Pledge Drive was due to launch on 23rd of May which gave us 5 days to find a solution.  We needed to establish a merchant account so that we could receive donations both via telephone and website.”   A merchant account number enables users to accept electronic payments from donors or customers.

Rob contacted Sage and spoke with Michelle Murphy, Sage Pay Specialist who understood immediately the nature of Spirit’s predicament and just how critical it was.  “Under Michelle’s careful guidance, work and procedures that would normally take two to three weeks were moved forward over 3 days,” continues Rob.  “Michelle went well beyond the normal call of duty to see that we were able to meet our targets.  She was proactive in spotting the important issues and alerting us to the tasks that we needed to achieve to put everything in place.”

The solution enables Spirit to speak with a donor and take their credit card details.  These are entered via the Sage website and a donation is received into Spirit’s own bank account.   Sage Pay is secure, compliant and is an active member of the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council.

“Sage Pay processes our donors’ payments effortlessly, leaving us more time to concentrate on bringing upbeat positive radio to our listeners.” concludes Rob.
